What appears are images of simplified light and darkness, their colours taken away through ordinary crystal glasses. An elegant violence printed on a huge paper, with accurate focus, precise exposure and innumerable layers from overheating CPU. Bottomless depth of the composition completed as KUWAJIMA put each glass reminds of a Mandala that connotes the world, drawing the audience into it, as the artist intended.

Is there anyone else who was longed for the come back so much like him? Hideki KUWAJIMA is ready to restart.

Hideki KUWAJIMA (b.1964) has a dynamic personality contrary to his artworks. KUWAJIMA started taking a series of photos "Vertical / Horizontal" in 2002.

Each of the KUWAJIMA's work begins with placing glasses and decanters carefully, imaging its final shape as an objet. And then KUWAJIMA shoots photos with a large sized camera and store the data in digital form in order to layer the transparent images repeatedly. These layers will be, finally, printed on huge papers.

The works have strength as well as mysterious complexity which reminds us a Mandala, as if we were drawn into the depth below the surface. KUWAJIMA's past works are added to the collections of those who have keen eyes for art such as Mr.David ELLIOTT, Ryutaro TAKAHASHI and LVMH group.

The exhibition title "Vertical / Horizontal" indicates his faithfulness to photography. The large sized works -the minimum is 65 x 150 cm, the maximum is 100 x 300 cm - seem to release his pent-up energy. As you can imagine from this title, 7 works including both vertical and horizontal ones will cover all over the wall of Radi-um, our brand new space which has opened this March.
