This exhibition features 7 artists, some of whom are in their
twenties, and some of whom are in their thirties or forties. Some
are highly valued at auctions, but one of them has just presented
his work at a graduate exhibition.
They have a variety of different skills and styles.
Kazuhiro Ito has been creating abstract, sometimes primitive bronze
sculptures, using surplus foundry bronze so called ' Yumichi'.
His works can be described as a visualized spirit of sculpture,
from a technical perspective, as well as their physical forms.
Choosing Japanese lacquer as a material, Toshihiko Iwata adopts
Japanese traditional motifs for his works, but with a dynamic
deformation. The simplified image which comes from this fusion
of classic and contemporary methods, gives a strong but intimate
impression to his works.
A digital generation artist Sachiko Ueno paints her works with
a "layered" style, using traditional oil paint. The
surfaces of the paintings show her unshaken confidence in the
way she paints.
A painting which has a minimal appearance requires high technical
skill. The vivid
touches by Ryosuke Ogino possess an elaborate scheme, as well
as great concentration from which we can recognize that the lines
he draws are thinner than a single hair.
Hiebie Souda depicts death which can also be a reflection of life,
while still demonstrating his faithfulness to human lives. This
artist is recently valued at auctions, yet keeps on energetically
creating, not resigning himself to the situation.
The thin, black lines show no hesitation on a white surface. Teruaki
Fuchizawa's elaborative works seem to be as if they are beyond
human wisdom. Viewers can hardly withdraw their gaze from his
ascetic like works.
The animation works by Kotaro Yamaguchi imply a humorous nihilism.
Cruelty under sweetness has become a global standard of artistic
expression. However, his originality - adding nihilism to such
expression - can be a symbol of an outlook that the viewer can
not easily judge as good or bad.
What is common among these artists is that they are the "youth"
in the art scene. That is to say they are all revealing and developing
their potential. Roentgenwerke entrust these artists with the
mission of breaking down the barriers of the elite art scene.
A reception for the artists will be held on 5th(Fri.) September,
from 18:00.
Everyone is welcome.
